Srilanka is one of those exotic locations that I hope to visit as often as possible. It has a lot of history, beauty, and tragedy all mingled into one.
I came across this picture of Weligama, a small fishing hamlet in Srilanka, famous for its unique style of fishing on stilts. (After further research, I would like to clarify that it is not only Weligama that pursues this particular style of fishing, but many other places in and around Srilanka practice fishing on stilts.)
This image has been captured by the brliiant Steve McCurry, an internationally acclaimed photographer, who shot to fame with his electrifying photograph of the unidentified Afghan refugee girl. The photograph went to to become one of the most sought after images in the world.
When he tracked Sharbat Gula nearly two decades later, he was believed to have quoted, "Her skin is weathered; there are wrinkles now, but she is as striking as she was all those years ago."
Sri Lanka! Now that's one place I really want to go to... Tell me more!
